Furniture Moves into the Bathroom

Author: Michael Sinclair
Bathrooms have gone from cramped rooms tucked away at the end of the hall that merely served their purpose, to large, airy showplaces. From state-of-the-art showers and whirlpool tubs to high-end countertops and cabinetry, the bathroom has become a haven where homeowners can relax and enjoy the room's amenities.

One of the hottest trends in bathroom design is the use of furniture. You may have seen home improvement shows that feature vanities made of reclaimed dressers or dining room buffets topped by beautiful sinks.

While you love the look, the thought of finding the right piece of furniture to use, then finding a craftsperson who can bring your vision to life, is a little daunting. There is now an easier way. Manufacturers of bathroom fixtures are making it simpler to have the coveted look of custom cabinetry combined with ease of installation.

For example, Kohler recently introduced a line of bathroom furniture that includes quality vanities with detailed features such as dovetail drawer boxes and soft-closing drawers. These heirloom-like vanities are made from premium hardwoods and veneers for a look of elegance for any bathroom. In conjunction with the new vanities, the company debuted a new Iron/Impressions countertop with an integrated basin made of cast iron to complete the classic look.

As with the furniture in other rooms of your house, you want it to blend with the overall style of your home. With four models to choose from, there is a style for every home and every taste, from country charm to sophisticated chic. The vanities not only give the bathroom a finished look, they also provide extra storage, something every bathroom needs. And, these vanities have been specifically built to withstand high-moisture environments, such as bathrooms.

Once you have a new vanity, you'll want to add other touches to the bathroom. A fresh coat of paint, a new set of towels and new window treatments can provide a color update for the room. Other accessories, such as towel bars and soap dispensers to match your new faucet and finish can continue your decorating theme. You can take the room improvements a step further and install new lighting for an additional style statement.

All of these improvements can be made easily, without doing an entire bathroom remodel, and if you are handy, they can all be done by you. Kohler's vanities are manufactured to standard vanity sizing, ensuring that you can easily retrofit these cabinets into existing bathrooms.
