Rosacea Treatments

Author: Lee Dobbins

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease which millions of Americans suffer from. It typically occurs in people between thirty and sixty-five and affects more women then men. Rosacea tends to affect many members in the family, causing doctors to conclude that there is a genetic predisposition to this problem. If left untreated, Rosacea may become very severe and can cause permanent skin damage.

Though there is no cure for Rosacea, there are many effective treatments on the market which range fromsurgical procedures to creams and ointments. The actual cause of Rosacea is unknown, but there are ways to help prevent it. Some prevention methods include avoiding harsh sunlight, heat, stress and alcohol. Watching your diet is important and identifying any food allergies can help too - common trigger foods include chocloate, carbonated drinks and spicy foods. To identify the triggers, you may want to write down each time an attack happens and what you were doing and eating or drinking at the time.

Rosacea treatments work for some people while others do not respond at all. You may need to experiment with the different products available to find the one that works right for you.

In some cases, a topical antibiotic, which will be prescribed by your doctor, is applied directly to the skin. In more severe cases an oral antibiotic used in combination with a topical cream might be prescribed. In any case, you should use a suncreen with a PF of 15 or higher any time you are going to be out in the sun.

Sometimes, laser or other surgical procedures might be used to remove broken blood vessels or correct the disfigurement of the nose that sometimes occurs among people who suffer from Rosacea.

Some people prefer herbal remedies and many have reported good results with these treatments that work by strengthening blood vessels and promoting healthy circulation. Some of the remedies are preventative while others are taken orally or applied to the skin.

One remedy that is said to reduce redness is pine tar soap. You use this by whipping up a thick lather and smoothing it on your face. Leave the lather on overnight and wash it off with more Pine Tar soap the next morning. Apply bag balm to your face right away and let sit for as long as you can, but at least 10 minutes.

Another popular herbal remedy is fenugreek tea which is also a popular herbal remedy for acne. If you can't find fenugreek tea in your store, simply buy some fenugreek and pour boiling water over it. Let steep for 10 minutes, strain out the fenugreek and drink the tea.

For natural topical remedies some like to use compresses of grapefruit seed or garlic applied to the skin. These antibacterial herbs can help rid your skin of parasites and will also help your skin look better.
